Plant Production Requirements

General Principles

Crops Are Produced Through A Variety Of Different  Methods, Including Agricultural Cycle And Appropriate Soil Coverage Using Various Plant Varieties For As Long As Possible During The Year To Be Consistent With Climatic Conditions Where Priority Is Given To Plant Protection To Use Natural Methods.

Plant Products Are Considered Organic Only If A Conversion Period Has Passed Before The Start Of The Organic Production Cycle.

Conversion Requirements

The Transition Period Starts From The Date Of Informing The Operator Of His Organic Activity To The Competent Authority And He Must Comply With All The Requirements Of The Local Or International Organic Standards Throughout The Transition Period From The Beginning Of The Transformation Period  Itself.

The Two-Year Transition Period Is For Annual Crops, Pastures And Meadows And For Three Years For Perennial Crops And Trees.

It Is Recommended That The Entire Farm Be Converted To Organic Production, Including Animal Production, Knowing That The Farm Can Be Gradually Converted And That The Operator Will Give The Certification Authority A Clear Plan On How To Follow And Progress With Transformation And Ensure The Complete Separation Of Its Different Parts Between Production Types (Cases: Dissected And Parallel Production).

During Transition, Products Are Labeled As "Products In Transition" But Are Not Considered Organic Until After The Transition Period

Split And Parallel Production

Parallel Production: Any Production By Which The Same Operator Cultivates, Cultivates, Transports Or Manufactures The Same Products (Plant Variety, Animal Strain) In Two Systems, One Organic And One Non-Certified And Non-Organic (Eg Organic Production And The Product)

Split Production: Production, Breeding, Trading Or Traditional Manufacturing, Or In The Process Of Organic Transformation, Which Is In The Same Process, This Is The Case When Granting The Organic Certification To One Part Of The Farm Or Manufacturing Unit. For More Details

Requirements For  Plant Production And It’s Technical Requirements:

  1. The Operators Should Select Local, Adapted And Tolerable Strains, Cultivars, Strains And Strains Of Organic Farming Systems And Include Them In The Agricultural Cycle Plan.

  2. Various Types Of Crops And Varieties Should Be Cultivated To Ensure The Sustainability And Biodiversity Of Organic Farms.

  3. The Crop System Model Includes The Regular Use Of Nitrogen-Stabilized Plants To Produce Crops And / Or Green Manure (Plants Of The Legume Family).

  4. Assigning Part Of The Crop Production To Produce The Seeds Of Propagation Necessary For The Continuation Of The Organic Production On The Farm Whenever Possible And Suitable For The Organic Farm Management System (According To The Basis Of The Election And The Natural Selection Of Different Plants).

  5. Use Natural Methods To Fertilize The Soil In Terms Of The Use Of Animal Organic Fertilizers (Free Breeding) Or Compost Or Green Manure And Within The Conditions Contained In The List Of Permitted Substances And So As Not To Contaminate The Soil Or Disturb The Balance Of Its Components.

Seed And Propagation Materials That Used To Start The Organic Farm:

1. All Seeds And Plant Materials Must Be Produced From Organic Propagation Farms And Have Organic Certification.

2. If Seeds And Organic Propagation Materials Are Not Available For Annual And Perennial Crops, They May Come From Plants Where Organic Management Has Been Applied For At Least One Generation Or One Year.

3. Traditional Materials Can Be Used If The Above Canot Be Applied In The Following Cases:

1 - Seeds And Plant Materials Not Treated With Chemicals Or Sterilizers.

       2. Chemically Treated Seeds And Plant Materials Provided That They Are Not Treated With Substances Other Than Those In The List Of Permitted Substances.

      3. Seeds, Seedlings And Chemically Treated Plant Materials. The Operator Shall Demonstrate The Need To The Use Of Such Materials And Obtain Prior Approval From The  Certification Authority For Use In A Limited Framework And Before Use. Taking Into Account The Documentation Of All Uses Of Seeds, Seedlings And Plant Materials Listed In The Farm Records.

4. It Is Strictly Forbidden To Use Seeds, Pollen, Or Modified Plant Materials.

Production Conditions In Protected Farming Mode

1 - The Use Of Green Manure And Leguminous Plants In The Agricultural Cycle.

2. Use Of Traps, Natural Enemies And An Appropriate Ventilation Environment.

3. The Use Of Solar Sterilization For Soil Treatment, With The Possibility Of Using The Thermal Treatment Of Soil, Agricultural Communities And Varietal Mixtures Under Special Conditions After Obtaining The Written Approval Of The Granting Of Certificates.

4. Use Sustainable, Non-Polluting And Energy-Saving Technologies For Cooling And Heating.

5. The Possibility Of Using Plastic Products (Polyethylene, Polypropylene, Polycarbonate) And Biodegradable Materials, Taking Into Account Recycling And Utilization.

Wild Collection

 1. The Land Collection Shall Be Administered In Order To Grant The Organic Certificate In Such A Way As To Prevent The Deterioration Of The Vital And Non-Vital Resources And Maintain Their Sustainability.

 2. Land Collection Activities Should Not Be Allowed In Environmentally Fragile Areas And Those Located Within Environmental Reserves.

 3. The Collection Area, Whether A Forest Or A Natural Area, Should Be Clearly Identified And Free From Contaminants And No Prohibited Substance Should Be Applied For At Least 3 Years Prior To Collection.

 4. The Land Collection System Should Be Suited To The Natural Cycles And Ecological Balance Of The Area.

 5. The Harvesters Must Be Authorized By The Competent Authority If Necessary And Should Contribute Positively To The Conservation Of The Natural Area.

 6. When The Collection Area Is Managed By A Group Or If The Operator Employs Two Temporary Collectors, There Must Be Internal Rules In Order To Maintain Control Of The Collection And General Management Of The Place.

 7. Certification Bodies Shall Have Specific Measures And Requirements For The Control And Certification Of Wild Harvest Products And Shall Be Informed Of Collection And Area Activities Prior To Harvest Time.

Mushroom Production

1. The Agricultural Mushroom Production Media Shall Consist Of Organic Components Of Agricultural Origin

2. It Is Preferable To Use Municipal Fertilizer And Animal Residual Residues From Holdings Subject To The Organic Production System,

3. Betemus And Chemically Treated Wood, Water And Soil Can Be Used.

4. The Starting Pollinators And Mescillium Should Meet The Requirements Of Separation.

5. Other Inputs Used In The Production Of Agricultural Mushrooms Should Be Compatible With The List Of Permitted Inputs.
